Understanding Your CFT Result

Each CFT event contributes up to 100 points, giving the test a maximum possible score of 300. To earn a passing CFT result, a Marine must meet two simultaneous requirements:

  • Achieve a combined cumulative score of at least 150 points.
  • Earn at least 40 points in every individual event for your age/sex bracket.

Important Pass/Fail Rule: Earning the 40-point minimum in all three events produces only 120 points:

40 + 40 + 40 = 120 points

Because 120 points is below the 150-point cumulative passing threshold, a Marine needs at least 30 additional points distributed across one or more events to pass. Conversely, scoring over 150 points overall does not produce a passing test if any single event falls below 40 points.

CFT Classification Tiers

CFT Classification Total Score Range
First Class 235โ€“300 pts
Second Class 200โ€“234 pts
Third Class 150โ€“199 pts
Unqualified by total score 0โ€“149 pts

* A passing cumulative total still requires meeting the 40-point minimum in every event.

Altitude Adjustment Note

Per official Marine Corps guidance, tests conducted at or above 4,500 feet elevation receive altitude-adjusted scoring for Movement to Contact (MTC) (+10 seconds) and Maneuver Under Fire (MANUF) (+6 seconds). Ammunition Can Lifts (ACL) receives no altitude adjustment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the USMC CFT score calculated?

The CFT score is calculated by scoring your performance in Movement to Contact (MTC), Ammunition Can Lifts (ACL), and Maneuver Under Fire (MANUF) against official age- and sex-specific USMC tables. Each event contributes up to 100 points for a maximum total of 300 points.

What score is required to pass the CFT?

To pass the CFT, a Marine must achieve a combined total score of at least 150 points out of 300 AND earn at least 40 points in every individual event.

Can I get 150 total points and still fail?

Yes. Earning 150 or more total points does not pass the test if your performance in any single event falls below the 40-point minimum for your age and sex group.

Does altitude change my CFT score?

Altitude adjustments (+10s for MTC and +6s for MANUF) apply when testing at or above 4,500 feet. Ammunition Can Lifts does not use an altitude-adjusted table.

Why does the calculator ask for age and sex?

Marine Corps CFT scoring tables are age-normed across 8 age brackets (17-20 up to 51+) and sex-specific to ensure accurate physical readiness scoring.
